It is the city’s crossroads.
Porta Nuova will be easy to reach. The key infrastructures will be underground, guaranteeing efficiency of the transit system and respecting the pedestrian-oriented character of the area.
It will be a crucially important hub for the network of underground railways and street-level public transport. And will have more than 80,000 square metres of private and public parking space, ready to receive the extra-urban car traffic that can stay in the area. People will go on to their individual destinations through the many public infrastructures: four underground lines, two railway stations (Stazione Centrale and Stazione Garibaldi).
It celebrates and revives the area’s historical identity.
Already in the 19th century, Porta Nuova was a hub for the movements of people and goods in Milan. Not only for the presence of railways in connection with the original Central Station and the Milano-Monza line, but also because, in the past, transportation routes in Milan followed the courses of the city’s canals, the Navigli.
