A heaven for pedestrians and cyclists.
What we see in the first ten metres when we walk somewhere determines our perception of a place. The spaces crossed on foot or on a bicycle affect people’s moods. For this reason, the design of spaces aims at achieving the environmental unity and harmony that can encourage a positive perception of the places and areas where people live and work. Neighbourhoods should not be divided and separated any more. Corso Como, the Piazza della Repubblica, the Isola neighbourhood become connected again, maintaining their respective vocations and experiences.
A homogeneous pedestrian surface exceeding 160,000 square metres allows people to get to each neighbourhood, walking or using the bicycle lanes, without ever having to cross a street. The “Giardini di Porta Nuova” are linked to Isola’s local gardens, to the circular piazza and the pedestrian paths of the Garibaldi neighbourhood, to the bridges and the linear garden within the Varesine project.
The lighting and the urban furniture — elements that are key for security and aesthetic considerations — have been carefully designed. Respect for the environment is certified.
In the Porta Nuova area, the most advanced criteria for environmental sustainability have been applied. Every building will be submitted to evaluation by one of the most prestigious worldwide rating systems for environmental certification, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), with the goal of introducing an innovative model that will hopefully become commonplace in Italian real estate development projects.
