Inside Outsite

Founded in Amsterdam in 1991 by Petra Blaisse, Inside Outside is a studio specialised in interior and landscape architecture formed by a group of professionals in different disciplines (architects, landscape architects and designers) who work in close collaboration. It realises projects on both small and large scale, especially for public spaces, developing aesthetic and technical solutions linked, for example, to acoustic, lighting and climatic problems, both for internal rooms and external spaces. It handles the design, choice of materials and visual effects of curtains, ceilings, floors, walls, and the particulars of parks and gardens, in a complementary, harmonious manner with respect to their environmental context. Examples of recent projects are the Central Library of Seattle, the Mick Jagger Centre Concert Hall of Dartford, the Casa da Música in Oporto, the gardens of the state prisons in Utrecht and the Hackney Empire Theatre in London.

Petra Blaisse, an architect of landscapes and interiors who handled the realisation of the Porta Nuova Gardens project, grew up in England, Portugal, Austria, Sweden and the Netherlands and studied in art schools in London and Groningen. Since 1987 she has worked as a freelance designer and gradually specialised in the use of fabrics and particulars for interiors and, at the same time, in the design of gardens and landscapes. She has given lectures and conferences at numerous universities and has collaborated with the greatest architects and engineers of the entire world.
